Overview
When attaching or scanning a document into the IndySoft software you may encounter the warning message, the attached image exceed this workstation's Maximum external file size.
No need to panic. The software is equipped with a Maximum External File Size setting that controls the file size you are able to attach. This setting helps minimize the growth of your IndySoft Database by restricting the size of the documents being attached or scanned into the software. If database growth is a concern in your environment then you can reduce the file size by re scanning the image with less total colors, or less resolution to reduce the file size to below the Maximum File Size setting. Another option would be to increase the Maximum File Size setting in the software to allow larger images to be attached.
This article will focus only on modifying the Maximum External File Size setting.
Step 1 - Launch the IndySoft software and log in
From the Home view select Preferences then By User/Location. The Preference link is typically found under the Configuration section to the right of the Home view. The actual location of this Preference link depends on how your Administrator has configured the Home Layout. (create link to Layout builder KB)
Step 2 - Change the Maximum External File Size
With the User/Location Settings window open, select the Application Settings link. Key the appropriate value in Kilobytes that is slightly larger than the document you are attempting to attach. This new setting will apply only to the User Name and Location shown in the header area.
Step 3 - Click Save & Close to save your changes
Try to attach your document.
Step 1 - Launch your Workstation Setup
From your Windows Start button select All Programs. Select IndySoft Client program Group. Select Workstation Setup within that IndySoft Client group.
Step 2 - Change the Maximum External File Size
With the Workstation Setup window open, select the Application Settings link. Key the appropriate value in Kilobytes that is slightly larger than the document you are attempting to attach.
Step 3 - Click OK to save your changes
Relaunch IndySoft software. Try to attach your document.
If you continue getting the attached image exceed this workstation's Maximum external file size warning message, verify the file size is smaller than the Maximum External File Size setting.
Another reason you could be continuing to get this message with Version 9 is that an Override Setting has been created. To check this:
Log into the Software, open your User Preferences. Select the Variables tab and look for the MAX. EXTERNAL FILE SIZE Variable name. You can modify this setting by clicking on the icon to Add/Edit Workstation Setup Override Variables. You can also highlight the MAX. EXTERNAL FILE SIZE variable and click on the icon to delete that Override setting.
